JianShui (waste water bowl) collects the water used to rinse and shower teaware. The form follows historical examples, including a lid, a feature that is now relatively rare, yet historically accurate. The removable lid is pierced with several openings, allowing steam to escape during use. The vessel may be used with or without the lid, depending on context and preference. It was made for gongfu tea, of course, but since it can hold about a 600ml, it is also nice for solo bowl tea sessions as well.
Wood firing has produced natural surface variation, ash deposits, and subtle shifts in tone and texture. These markings are the result of flame path, ash fall, and kiln atmosphere, and are unique to this single firing. Only one was made.
